Made fully from ramie fiber – an extract from the nettle plant – the Katra chair boasts an eco-friendly approach to design.
‘The use of composite materials offers unique creative opportunities in the field of furniture design, especially in terms of shape, texture and innovative use,’ says designer Antoine Gripay of studio APARTE. However, ecological and sanitary impact must also be taken into consideration.
Gripay says ramie fibres are resistant natural by-products that are stronger than fiberglass. The minimalistic Katra design has straight, clean lines yet is lightweight and durable.
APARTE is a multidisciplinary French studio that creates products, websites and interior spaces. It is based in Nantes, France.
