Hotel Missoni – Kuwait City

BOOKMARK ARTICLE

In the 169 room hotel, guests will find gold leather, brass, corain, cement encaustic tiles, fringes and non-stop patterns. ‘The palette for Hotel Missoni Kuwait is utterly fresh and quite idiosyncratic,’ says Ross Hunter, a principal designer from Graven Images. ‘There’s no-one else is using colour and materials in this way and I think it really bucks all of the current trends everywhere.’ Hunter says the design team has been working for four years to conceptualize the space. They had the task to realize the detailed design wishes of Rosita Missoni, who founded the fashion label with her husband Ottavio in 1958. He says the unusual architecture of the building, including curved corridors and non-orthogonal room shapes, required some remodelling to tailor the space to meet the brand's vision. The first Hotel Missoni, also by Graven Images, opened in Edinburgh in 2009. The third Hotel Missoni will open in Oman; it's currently being designed by Graven Images and Michael Graves Architects.
