Contrast and whimsical colours are at the core of Anagrama’s design for Kindo, a kids-wear boutique in San Pedro Garza García, a suburb of Monterrey, Mexico. According to the designers, the brand is ‘a mix of the classic and the new’ in a design based on the desire ‘to create a functional circulation flow that leads shoppers through the store’.
To achieve their goal, the studio drew inspiration from the bead maze, a toy that features a tubular network of twists and turns, along with geometric shapes that spin and slide as little fingers move them along the rails, from one spot to another. The palette selected by Anagrama is meant to reflect a child’s personality, but the team also wanted to establish a degree of order underpinned by a palpable sense of energy.
Using galvanized-steel pipes, wood and fibreglass, they built functional, well-organized display units and surfaces that facilitate the search for merchandise: clothes for boys and girls, accessories, shoes and toys. Material and chromatic contrasts make for an uncluttered retail environment that is instantly comprehensible – and sweetened by delectable eye candy.
