MOBILITY
Until 2025, projects that would now fall under the category of ‘mobility space’ were generally submitted to FRAME Awards in the Governmental Interior category. Starting this year, we’ve recognized the specificities of designing for transit with a category dedicated to mobility.
From the respectful revamp of this heritage-listed metro station in Sydney to an EV charging station surrounded by greenery, mobility spaces take many forms. Last year’s Governmental Interior of the Year was the Kempegowda International Airport Departures Lounge by Enter Projects Asia, lauded by grand jury member Anna Gitelman, associate professor at Suffolk University: ‘A truly sustainable project that combines craftsmanship, innovation and spatial psychology, skillfully employing form, material and light,’ she said, also noting how the organic rattan forms ‘organize the space and create movement’. Another shortlisted project was Shanghai Yuyuan Metro Station by Xing Design, a dynamic and fluid interior design solution for the deepest metro station in the city.
Finishes, Sanitary, Pop-ups and more
Curious about other underrepresented categories in the FRAME Awards? Below is a roundup of notable projects submitted to the categories of Finishes, Sanitary, Pop-up Store and Healthcare Centre.
This 2025 Finishes submission by Mirage R&D brings sustainability to luxury with a tile made from waste materials, with jury member Yuko Tsukumo, general manager at Nikken Sekkei, commenting how it is ‘not only an eco-friendly idea, but also a material that has real design appeal’. Archifolds for Hermès by Studio Samira Boon took a simple fold, applied it to fabric and extended it throughout this Shanghai Hermès boutique, taking home the title of Finish of the Year in last year’s FRAME Awards.
Medical Studio by SR Studio, submitted in the Healthcare Centre Category.
JJ, a towel-heating accessory submitted in the Sanitary category by PS + A Palomba Serafini Associati, ensures a spa-like experience with every shower, at home or at a hotel. Random Studio’s submission in the Pop-up Store category, covered previously on FRAME, uses AI-generated poetry and a saturation of pastel tones to lock in an emotional connection for visitors discovering Glossier’s newest scent. Medical Studio, an honourable mention submission in the category Healthcare Centre from February of this year, shows an old church building transformed into a serene medical office by SR Studio.
