Meet the 15 design creatives leading April’s FRAME Awards jury

This month’s jury is spread across all ends of the globe and boasts expertise in different design sectors and spatial typologies. The 15-strong jury will use their diverse design knowledge to determine the winning FRAME Awards projects in April.

Ad de Hond, owner and creative brand strategist at ADHdesign 

Ad de Hond is an experienced designer and brand strategist having built his career working for premium international brands like Nike, Starbucks and Denham. His expertise in the hospitality and retail sectors with an emphasis on brand experience, events and products, guided him to establish his own international design agency ADHdesign based in Amsterdam. He’s currently working on creative assignments for …,Staat Amsterdam with clients like Hema, Redevco and Ace & Tate.

Andrew Martin, founder of AMD

Andrew Martin is the founder of interior architecture studio AMD. He has over 30 years of experience creating engaging commercial spaces like retail environments, restaurants and cafés, 3D installations and pop-ups. His portfolio includes names like Anthropologie, Jigsaw, White Stuff, The New Craftsman, The Maiyet Collective, Pret a Manger and Thomas’s at Burberry. In 2020, he launched Residency, a sustainable pop-up shop concept that can be rebranded and changed easily using digital branding and reusable fixtures and fittings.

Asha Sairam, principal of Studio Lotus

As the principal and leader of New Delhi-based Studio Lotus’ hospitality vertical, Asha Sairam’s diverse portfolio extends across retail and brand identity development, hospitality experiences, corporate interiors, exhibitions and installation design. An active member of the Indian design community, the Perspective Global Design Awards 40 Under 40 recipient practices conscious design, paying mind to cultural influences, prioritization of local resources and inclusive processes.

Catalina Soffia Baeza, cofounder of Estudio Well and creative director at Yáneken

Interdisciplinary designer Catalina Soffia Baeza balances a diverse design vernacular acquired from her time living abroad in Australia, Spain and Denmark. The Chile native is a designer of exhibitions, installations and retail and hospitality spaces. Defining and incorporating a strategic purpose which serves the client and its consumers are central to the cofounder of Estudio Well and creative director at Yáneken’s design works.

Daniel Kaven, founder and partner of William/Kaven Architecture

Multi-disciplinary architect, artist and author Daniel Kaven is the cofounder of William/Kaven Architecture. The American multi-hyphenate positions art as an essential element of his architectural practice and believes that an interdisciplinary approach is best for creating solutions to complex challenges in the built environment. Working across typologies, Kaven has designed projects like a forthcoming full-block revitalization in Portland, Oregon’s Chinatown neighbourhood, which combines affordable housing with hospitality and commercial spaces, among other living, and commercial spaces. He is the author of Architecture of Normal: The Colonization of the American Landscape.

Darren Xu, founder and CEO of Spider Creative

Formerly the design director and concept and flagship director at Starbucks and Heytea, Darren Xu went on to establish and operate Spider Creative a multi-disciplinary design and consultancy studio based in Shanghai. Still working with clients like Starbucks, Xu specializes in the creation of innovative experiences in spaces like brand flagships. He understands how spatial design plays a vital role in creating value for global brands and continues to practice this. 

Du Pengzhan, chief architect of engineering design management centre of the bureau of public works of Shenzhen Municipality

Du Pengzhan received his bachelor's degree from the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University in 2002. He went on to study under Zaha Hadid at the School of Architecture at Yale University where he received his master’s degree in architecture. He worked as an architect at Kevin Roche, FXFOWLE and NBBJ in New York, where he gained experience in planning, design, construction, operation and urban planning, before returning to China where he currently serves as the chief architect of engineering design management centre of the bureau of public works of Shenzhen Municipality. 

Kyriaki Kasabalis, director of design and research at Kasawoo

Kyriaki (Katie) Kasabalis has previously taught as a unit master at the Architectural Association and a visiting senior fellow at LSE Cities in London. Prior to establishing Kasawoo, she worked as an architect at Foster + Partners, Richard Meier & Partners and Weiss/Manfredi in New York City. She received her bachelor's and master’s degrees in architecture and urban design from Cornell University and Harvard University, respectively. Originally hailing from Greece and currently residing in London, she approaches design from a global perspective and believes design can promote liveable, equitable and sustainable cities.

Lindsay Roth, principal and design director at Gensler London

Lindsay Roth, principal and design director at Gensler London is driven by her passion for creating innovative and human-centric design solutions that define the workplace. Throughout her career, she has developed an extensively diverse portfolio, working seamlessly across sectors and industries. In each project, Roth aims to align client values with the key principles of sustainability and responsible design, delivering strong concept designs by harmonising strategy with emotive storytelling and narratives. She’s worked on projects for clients like Nestle, Adidas and Estee Lauder. She is also a design synergy leader for the Europe region.

Mark Bithrey, founder and creative director at B3 Designers

In 2002, Mark Bithrey founded B3 Designers to offer strategy, brand and interior design services in the hospitality industry, having worked with top hotel brands like Marriott Hotels and The Ritz-Carlton as well as Michelin-starred chefs like Tom Aikens with Tom's Kitchen, Elizabeth Haigh with Mei Mei, and Chef Vivek Singh with the Cinnamon Group. Currently serving as the company’s creative director, he brings over two decades of experience to each project, ensuring operational efficiency across different typologies and sectors.

Mauro Brigham, cofounder and creative director of ncbham

Mauro Brigham is an interior designer who cofounded ncbham, a multidisciplinary creative agency based in Brussels. As creative director, he oversees a team of interior architects, architects, graphic designers, industrial designers and food experts. Brigham is also the president of the Association of Interior Designers of Belgium where he works to promote diversity within the industry and advocate for the importance of design in society.

Philip Staszewski, partner architect at Ivy Studio

After obtaining his master's of architecture in 2014 at Université de Montréal, Philip Staszewski worked as an architect and project manager for a boutique residential and commercial architecture firm in Montéal. In 2018, he went on to cofound Ivy Studio with three colleagues and friends from university. His conceptual experience led him to act as the lead designer and project manager for the firm.  He regularly works with local artisans and creatives to develop new finishes and design custom furniture with the intent to create truly unique spaces that reflect his client’s identity. 

Simon Schmolling, head of architecture Meiré und Meiré

Simon Schmolling studied architecture at TU Darmstadt and ETSAV Barcelona with a strong focus on collaborative learning. He joined Meiré und Meiré as creative director in 2008 and now serves as head of architecture. Together with an interdisciplinary team, he is responsible for permanent and temporary brand architecture projects for Dornbracht, RIMOWA, BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce, among others.

Steve Lastro, CEO and future of living advisor at LINQ-X

Having worked with The Grammys, Fotografiska, London Design Biennale and MINI Living, Steve Lastro’s design approach focuses on technology and wellness. With 20 years of experience designing in the commercial, residential, corporate and hospitality sectors he currently serves as a future of living consultant at LINQ-X, a multidisciplinary design studio in Sydney.

Wang Zhongli, partner in China at Catanian

As the president of Design Culture of Bauhaus Design Elite Association, Wang Zhongli received his master’s degree from LISAA in France. In 2014, He joined CCJVV in Spain as their partner in China and set up offices in Beijing and Guangzhou to create spaces which connect culture and people for different industries, including business operation, product experience, sales, structure and other aspects. He’s worked with clients like Zara, Lenovo and Ikea.
