January’s jury is an impressive collection of creatives and design professionals, spanning disciplines, sectors and continents. Get to know this month’s FRAME Awards jury below.
Addy Walcott, associate director of M Moser Associates
Addy Walcott has over two decades experience in designing environments for retail, hospitality and commercial clients in over 40 countries worldwide. He graduated with a degree in interior design in the UK and initially started his career in the retail and hospitality sectors. During his time in Dubai, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore, he refined his expertise in the field of brand experience which is the basis of his differentiated approach to workplace design. Leading M Moser’s multi-disciplinary Brand Experience team, since 2017, his expertise and focus has been brand-led design. He’s worked with clients like Dyson, Spotify and Diageo.
Bart Sasim, managing director of Coliving Ventures
As a creative strategist and real estate entrepreneur working in the shared living sector, Bart Sasim is on a mission to build futureproof and sustainable business solutions. He received his education in interior architecture and retail design in the UK and The Netherlands and his expertise is concentrated in concept development, breathing life into new-built and existing spaces, envisioning their potential beyond conventional functionalities and transforming them into experience-driven spatial products. As the CEO and Founder of Spatial Experience and as founder and managing director of Coliving Ventures, Bart has been instrumental in driving key developments within the co-living sector.
Ben Pashley, head of store concept development at Magasin du Nord
Having studied retail and fashion management at the University of Central Lancashire, Ben Pashley started his career in implementing new stores, spatial design and concept-related projects the department store sector across the UK and Ireland. In 2011, he started to work for Magasin du Nord – where he is the current head of store concept development. His focus is on creating modern and inspiring retail spaces and campaigns to produce a positive customer experience.
Bin Wu, founder of W.DESIGN
Known for his ‘Modern Orientalism’ approach to interior design, Bin Wu is the founder of W.DESIGN China. With more than two decades of experience as a designer in Asia and beyond, Bin blends traditional Eastern aesthetics with Western modernist design techniques. Based in Shanghai, he’s received accolades like being named a six-time consecutive winner of "AD 100" and a recipient of the 24th Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of The Year Award.
CM Jao, co-founder of Oft Interiors
CM Jao is an interior designer who graduated from Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) with a degree in design. With a career spanning internationally renowned architecture and interior design firms, CM has gained extensive experience in the field. Possessing a global perspective and a talent for innovative thinking, he excels in analyzing and innovating commerce, shopping and entertainment spaces. His works have received numerous international design awards. He is the co-founder of the Hong Kong-based design firm, Oft Interiors.
David T’Kint, founder of Studio David T’Kint
With 20 years of experience designing luxury and lifestyle hotels, David T’Kint has worked with an impressive roster of clients like JW Marriott, Four Seasons, Hyatt and Raffles. As the founder of his eponymous design studio based in Dubai, his work spans four different continents. He prides himself in his approach that places the understanding of people and culture at its centre and has realized high-end hospitality spaces in Egypt, the UK, Indonesia, Tanzania, India and beyond.
Dimitris Karampatakis, co-founder and director of K Studio
Dimitris Karampatakis is the co-founder and director of design firm K Studio. Educated in London where he began his career at the Bartlett School of Architecture, he moved to Athens to start K Studio with his brother. The multidisciplinary design studio focuses on curating holistic, immersive experiences through architecture, hardscape design and interior design with an emphasis on minimizing waste while maximising user experience. He and his studio have worked with an impressive roster of clients at home in Greece and abroad in Qatar, Panama, Kuala Lumpur and beyond.
John Naranjo, associate principal and creative director at Arcadis Inc. Miami
John Naranjo has worked in creative design for nearly 35 years with his body of work spanning commercial, retail and hospitality interiors. A multi-disciplinarian, he has expertise in developing strategies, artistic direction and branding and translating that into spatial design concepts. Though he specializes in the Latin American and Asian markets, much of his work has also been completed in the United States with clients like Saks 5th Avenue, Bloomingdales and the Lotte Department Stores.
Kammy Han, general manager of Chengdu EGO business management, Founder of COSMO
Educated at Xihua University, Kammy Han has been involved in commercial operation and management for 10 years. She has experience in the operation and management of commercial properties in Chengdu, having led multiple renovations of commercial projects. Through her keen sense of business, industry insight, and understanding of brand resources, she has led the successful transformation of Cosmo, a youth-oriented commercial lifestyle space in Chengdu.
Krisztián Szetei, owner and managing director of Solinfo Group, Timbart Studio
As a second-generation owner at Solinfo Group, Krisztián Szetei is also the managing director of the Budapest-based multi-brand furniture and lighting company. Originally an economist majoring in commerce, he took over managing his father’s tiny lighting shop 24 years ago and soon become an expert in all things concerning lighting and furniture. Solinfo Group is now a multidisciplinary company with six integrated divisions specialized in different design disciplines in the lighting and furniture industry that has collaborated with leading design brands such as Molteni, Vitra, Roche Bobois, Kerakoll, Tom Dixon, XAL and Moooi.
Marc Verderol, head of store construction Europe at Swarovski
Since 1999, Marc Verderol, an architect specializing in international retail project and process management, has worked with brands like Camper, Swarovski, Pronovias and Adidas. From revitalizing an old brewery in Barcelona to the latest collaboration between Swarovski and Skims, he has a diverse portfolio of design work. He is currently the head of store construction in Europe for Swarovski and is based in Barcelona. He also delivers lectures on retail design and consults on retail and business strategy.
Nicholas Burns, founder of Studio Nicholas Burns
Born in Australia, Nicholas Burns established Studio Nicholas Burns in 2007 and has worked in Australia, New Zealand Portugal, Hong Kong, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Singapore and São Tomé e Príncipe. His design process emerges from a deep understanding of the client, landscape and the context as a complex set of variables, both observed and sensed that lead to a unique and personal outcome. His interest in different cultures and climates, landscapes, materials and technologies allows his to constantly develop and deepen his design language and understanding. To complement its architecture, the studio also designs and manufactures a series of refined furniture and one-off pieces.
Pallavi Dean, founder and creative director of Roar
Playing at the intersection of design and entrepreneurship, Pallavi Dean founded her design firm Roar in 2013. As a trained architect and sustainability specialist her work spans sectors including commercial, hospitality, residential and product design. She was born in India, raised in Dubai and spent years working in London and her designs reflect these eclectic influences. Some of her most notable recent work includes The Accor House of Original in Dubai, Sensasia spa at Kempinski Dubai and Mckinsey HQ in Doha. As a former professor of design, she strives to implement the latest theoretical and practical research into the firm’s designs.
Pepa D'Amato, trend forecaster and design consultant at Futurea
Pepa Casado D'Amato is a trend researcher specialized in product and interior design. She is the author of reference studies such as The New Habitat, which analyzes, together with more than 400 design professionals, how hospitality, office, retail and residential spaces are being transformed. She is co-founder of Futurea, a consulting firm specializing in trend research in strategic environments and their application to the market. Its methodology is the result of more than 15 years of experience in the fields of market research, trends and foresight.
Valentina Audrito, partner and co-founder of Studio Audrito
Born in Turin, Italy, ValentinaAudrito earned a degree in architecture from the city’s Polytechnic university. She’s lived in various countries, retaining significant learnings from each of them that help create her vision, aesthetic and overall process. She is the founder, creative director and principal architect of former Word Of Mouth House, an architecture, design and arts practice that she started in Bali in 2004 and is currently based in Singapore. She is also associated with Studio 65, a well-established architecture and design practice based in Italy and Saudi Arabia, founded by her parents with whom she collaborates regularly. Now both practices merged into one, Studio Audrito, where Valentina has been actively involved in award-winning projects from private residences and retail spaces to boutique hotels, resorts and schools.
