Ciutat Vella (Old City), became one of the main inspirations for the design. Stone, greenery, water elements and arch forms are the essential ingredients of the neighbourhood, and we decided to introduce these same ingredients in the entrance area, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. - Adria Goula
Three stones perform as reception desks, referencing the stone fountains in the Gothic patios of the area. - One Represent

SUMMARY The design looks for a dialogue between the Hotel and Barcelona and specifically with its location in Ciutat Vella ( Old City) , an artsy neighbourhood with an old body and a young soul. CLIENT’S BRIEFING The briefing was to create a Hotel with a local approach, handcrafted and custom-designed, with unique spaces that reflect Barcelona's lifestyle and architecture. GENERAL DESIGN STRATEGIES Did you know that Vividora is the spanish feminine word for a "Bon Vivant", an adventuress, a fun-loving socialite? With this in mind, our main strategy was to create different public spaces inside the Hotel, that would invite both guests and locals to enjoy and meet and interact. They all reflect the local lifestyle, with a chic and joyful atmosphere, unforcedly elegant and genuine at the same time. CREATIVITY The design brings handcrafted elements, local brands and art, colourful ceramic patterns, together with reinterpreted references to its historical past, mixed with a contemporary spontaneous design approach that gives Vividora Hotel a unique, energetic personality. FUNCTIONALITY One of the project's most significant challenges was organizing the public program, as the ground level in contact with the street, the public space par excellence was minimal. We decided to use the ground floor exclusively for the Bar area, converting it into a literal connection joint between the city and the Hotel. Instead, the Lobby area is situated in a more discreet position on the mezzanine level and connected to the bar through a double-height space. The restaurant, open to a local clientele, is located on the second level of the Hotel, a very uncommon situation in Barcelona where upper floors are traditionally used for housing. We converted this challenge into an opportunity: going to this restaurant should be like going to a friend's house. INNOVATION Innovation is not only looking at the future, but also understanding and reinventing the traditions. Barcelona has a broad ceramic craftsmanship tradition and we decided to convert ceramic tiles in one of the protagonists of the project. These tiles were custom-designed for the project and produced by local producers, achieving the sense of exclusivity the Hotel was looking for, while creating a sense of inclusivity with local arts and crafts. SUSTAINABILITY AND INCLUSIVITY We wanted to go over the aesthetic and formal aspects and connect the Hotel with the city socially and economically. With this objective, most of the furniture, materials and finishes selected for the design are local brands, bringing a local flair to Vividora Hotel while collaborating with the local economy. And last but not least, we also achieved avoiding long transports while helping save our planet.
