Wandering Forest of Hermés

Japanese super studio Nendo has created a mythical forest in shop windows of two Tokyo Hermés stores.

Clothing and accessories are displayed on tree-shaped structures; in some cases it seems as though products slice through the trees. The result is an optical illusion as views change between the foreground, background and pending where the viewer stands. The simple two-tone colour use in white and brown further enhances the optical effect.

‘The result is a strange sensation in which contradictions and depth suddenly appear to passers-by as their angle of vision changes,’ say Nendo designers.

The displays can be seen at the Hermés boutiques in the Sogo Yokohama and Takashimaya Tokyo department stores.

This is our second Hermés window display feature this week; click here to see Dutch designer Kiki van Eijk’s window for Hermés at de Bijenkorf department store in Amsterdam.
