Ciné Noir by Kalhöfer-Korschildgen

Moviegoers enter Cologne’s prestigious Cinenova – art house cinema – like they might, a film set. German architects Kalhöfer-Korschildgen – first featured on Frameweb last November – set dramatic lighting schemes and golden-chain drapes against dark backgrounds, a scheme that exudes glamour and glitz.

Anything but outdated opulence, the stark contemporary renovation accentuates technical structures and media installations – simultaneously modernised – with typographic projections that guide visitors around the venue. A floor to ceiling ‘scene’ installation conceals three movie theatres while an oval sofa – floating like an island – flanks the golden cube-like structure.
