Latvian designer Germans Ermics is a graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

In creating a series of Isometric Mirrors, Ermics looked to mathematical equations. A curved strip of wood that frames the mirrors makes them look like holes in the wall. Several mirrors next to one another intensify the confusion, as sections of the wall appear to shift and tilt.

‘I was interested in optical illusions and wanted to create a simple interior object with an element of the unexpected,’ Ermics says. ‘It took a lot of research which led me to the idea of isometric projection – a method for visually representing 3D objects in 2D drawings.’

When passers-by look into the mirrors, they see a tweaked vision that alters perceptions of what is real.
